I have had pretty good luck over the years with solving this without damage to the car: Get a good flashlight, get a long shaft regular screw driver, us the flashlight to find the latch mechanism looking through the front grill of the car. Once you see where the latch is, use the screw driver to release the latch, slightly depressing the hood will relieve extra tension on the latch. Most hood latches have a first and second level release, take your time and you will figure it out. NOTE: After you have released the hood add a piece of strong cord to the release mechanism so you may release the hood until you get it fixed. Or if the car is old enough use the cord until you get rid of the car; a bent wire hanger also will serve as a release and will last longer than the cord.
The hood release on my 2003 Ford Taurus seems frozen it will not move at all how else can I open the hood?
Try pulling the hood release then going to the hood and pulling up on the hood by the edges. If it pops up manually then you can spray up the latch and mechanism real good and it should get better. If not then you will have to fish in the grill and try to release the latch. Also you may need to crank out the spring loaded hood supports on each side of the hood to add more pressure on the hood so when you release the hood it would pop open because of added pressure. Just a half turn on each one or so counter clockwise;

I didn't know that one would require a battery to open. but if so one thing that you can do is to take the two cables off the back of the switch that opens that hood and add a 12 volt battery. press the button and walla the hood will open. If you are talking about the hood for the engine, it doesn't need power. If you have pulled on the hood release latch inside the car and the hood didn't pop up, it might just be stuck to the rubber seal. You might need someone to help you fix this. Have someone lift up on the hood while you pull on the hood release latch. If you are by yourself, pull the hood release latch and then go out and pull up on the hood - it might still pop open. Note: There is a safety catch that won't allow the hood to open simply by pulling on the hood release latch inside the car. Once the hood is popped, there is a handle under the hood that you have to grab that will allow you to open the hood the rest of the way. While standing at the front of the car with the hood popped, look under the hood or in the grill and you should be able to see the handle.
