Prof Thorat asserted that National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Bangalore is the only statutory body entrusted with the right to rank the universities in the country. Thorat, who is also the Chairman of the General Council of the NAAC, intends to send a team in the month of May to assess the Amity University. Many of the officials of NAAC are dissatisfied with the publication of such advertisements by the Amity University. Chairman of the Executive Council of the NAAC, Prof Goverdhan Mehta, in his statement has condemned this act of Amity University.
