Anyone with a reasonable singing voice can become a singer, though they might need some voice training first in order to heighten and refine their vocal qualities.

It also helps if they can get together a backing group, and write at least some of their own songs (either on their own or with other members of the group). When they've practiced long and hard enough to be good enough for public performance, they'll then need to get gig bookings at local venues - pubs, clubs, public events, bars, special event evenings and so on. After they've become established as a good local act, it would be a good idea to engage the services of an agent, who can advise them about how to develop their career, how to go about cutting their first records, and the best way of getting known and noticed further afield.
