No. While you may have Christian principles, you cannot call yourself a Christian as a Christian is a follower of Jesus Christ and someone who believes that Jesus is Lord, God the Son and the saviour of us all. Sadly, there are those who consider themselves a Christian, yet they don't believe the claims of Scripture regarding His sacrifice on the Cross for their sins. Belief is qualified in the Scriptures. It is not just that one believes that Christ existed. James 2:19 says: "Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble." There needs to be something deeper in belief, yet it is simple enough that a child can satisfactorily trust in Christ.
In Romans 10:9,10, it clarifies the necessary belief: "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Jesus said: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life." John 6:47.
Paul, in 1 Corinthians 15:3,4, presents a brief explanation of the Gospel, or the good news about Christ: "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures."
Yes you can believe that Jesus was a man in history without being a Christian. Jesus of Nazareth is in fact in history. He lived and was put to death by the hands of the Jewish chief priests and the roman government. This is all FACT in history so in essence you can in fact believe in Jesus as a man without being a Christian.
You can also believe that Jesus was a good prophet that came to earth to spread
God's word, but he is not the Son of the one true God. This is what Muslims believe.
The TRUTH is though...
Believing in Jesus as a man in history or as a good prophet means really nothing. Jesus Christ is Christianity. His life is Christianity. If Christianity is not Jesus Christ, then Jesus was a liar, and in essence not a good prophet at all, because he said John 14:9 NIV "Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?" Jesus is stating that because the disciples have been living and fellowshiping with Him they have already seen God. Jesus is stating that he is God the second person of the Trinity God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, One God three persons.
We as Christian do not live to be "good people" Romans 3:10-12 NIV "As it is written: 'There is no one righteous, not one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one." we live to be transformed to be Christ like in everything we do, but we are not saved by good works we are saved by grace through faith Ephesians 2:8 NIV "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-".
Being a Christian doesn't mean we are good people, Christ transforms are lives and we strive to be like him. We are human though and we do fail, but that is why Christ came and saved us from this lost world.
So the answer to your question is YES you can believe in Jesus as a man in History from Nazareth and YES you can believe that Jesus was a good prophet, but whats the point in that? If you want to know more about who Christ is then blog and I will answer more.
In Christ
Jesus is a prophet in the Qur'an. This a Moslem position and book. Moslems are not Christians.
Yes, being a 'Christian' is to be a disciple of Jesus 'Christ.'
If you believe Jesus is a god then you are a Christian, baptised or not. There are also religions that believe in Jesus but do not believe him to be god. There is no evidence in their literature to suggest they will or can be abandoned by Jesus. If you are not a Christian or any other religion that believes in Jesus then the question is moot, it does not matter if Jesus abandons you.
Christian's believe that Jesus died as a ransom to our sin.
King of the Jews.
If you believe in Jesus that would make you a Christian.
Christians are followers of Jesus Christ and first and foremost they believe in Jesus, and who He is, God Son.
Because you believe that Jesus died for you and also arose from the dead , then we will have salvation.
Jesus is not god, he is the son of god, if you believe. he is the prophet of the christian faith, if you do not believe he is or was the Prophet of Christianity then you are in fact not a christian.
To be Christian means to believe in Jesus more and follow his teachings. To be Christian means to make peace with everybody around you no matter if they are your enemies or not. Everyone is important around you.
