It is not recommended to put a rat and mouse together unless done so from a very very young age.
Female Mice and Rats can store sperm, and therefore give birth at a later date without presence of a male.
A rat has more chromosomes then a mouse. There are also protective layers over the animals egg that protects it from being fertilized by another species.
A rat and a mouse will not cross breed.

may be , hamster's are part of the rodent family . but if they did, they may be a bit muck up , born with no eyes or something.
i had the same ? with dwarf hamster and house mouse . coz they about the same size . but a Syrian hamster , is a lot smaller than a dumbo rat. and a rat allot more intelligent compare to a hamster , a hamster like things they own way .
i got 7 Syrian hamsters 2 female and 5 male .i put the females in a cage together coz i don't want any more. the male do fight a little now and then but nothing to worrier about. they usually get along fine . they usually fight over they little house , so i put a few more in they cage.
people say Syrians can't be together coz they will kill each other. not true as long as they family they live together.
but just like all animals there always a leader of the pack . i got 2 hamster to who to scared to fight.
as long as they think your the leader. they should live together , if you got a rat and hamster they should get along as long as there a spacey cage . they will fight one day . and there a big size diff . say if the ray attack the hamster it wound it badly or kill it coz a rat will go for the neck as a killing stroke . i known a wild brown rat could kill a rabbit i seen it . but a tame rat , would be fine . if the hamster attack the rat it hurt it. but would'nt kill it . only way it could kill a rat is if it chew it tale off .
i don't a rat would breed with a hamster coz of the size diff . who knowns i could be right . let tell u something if some1 says Syrian's live on they own they are dull coz in the wild they hunt in packs . to get food like wolves , they just borrow in diff, holes but the borrows are close to each other . in the wild they are no more. coz of us humans and of cause snakes and Spiders. the rat and hamster should be fine as long as they both were babies. when u had them they live together .
