You can buy primates in the US. Legality of it can be very hard to determine. The federal, state and local government bodies can outlaw private sector ownership of a primate which will prevent you from being able to get one. There are many breeders out there, but please remember you HAVE to buy the primate from someone within the United States and USDA certified, as it is illegal to import primates as pets. Now depending on who you buy from they might also prevent you from getting one based on your experience, knowledge and means to care for them. You can get any primate that is not on the endangered list, as long as you can find a breeder of that species. For endangered primates you will have to apply for a license to get and obtain the primate.

If you are looking to buy a primate please do the research. Primates can't be trained and can't be treaded like children. Primates need large enclosures, lots of simulation and attention, and they need to be around other primates. The exotic animal industry is tainted because of people who think that an exotic animal would be cool to own, and they know nothing about the animal and they end up getting attacked or killed.
