Yes. Herpes Simplex I (HSV I), is oral herpes and Herpes Simplex II (HSV II), is genital herpes. They are two different strains of the same virus, therefore it is possible to contract one separately from the other. HSV I, oral herpes, is what we commonly refer to as cold sores and fever blisters. Often if someone is having a genital outbreak, they will get an outbreak on their mouths too. Cold sores and genital herpes are very easy to pick up. Any type of stress to the body or the immune system can cause an outbreak. Surgery, stress, the flu, not sleeping well, etc. The herpes virus stays in the body once you have contracted it. There is no cure for it. Once you get that first cold sore it stays in your system and then will just pop up whenever. It is also possible to spread the herpes virus without having an outbreak. Safe sex is always the best route to take.

∙ 14y agoOral herpes can lead to genital herpes if the mouth makes contact with the genitals IE Oral sex. So if you have a cold sore so not go down on your partner or the other way around. and be careful you can spread herpes even if you do not have signs of an outbreak.

∙ 12y agoOral herpes can't turn into genital herpes as they are two different viruses. A person can however have oral herpes virus in the genital area and have the genital herpes virus in the oral area.
