Bipolar disorder can run in families. My mother (who is now deceased), older sister and daughter all are bipolar. It can skip generations or only one person in the family can be affected. My daughter's doctor advised that her children run a 25 percent chance of being bipolar.
Bipolar disorder is or is not born with you. Yes you can eventually have bipolar disorder ,but you can't catch it. So if you know someone that dose have this disorder don't start hating them because they have mixed emotions. If you have bipolar disorder it dose NOT mean you are considered emo either ,but like all judgmental people (everyone is judgmental) they often make fun, call names, hurt,or not even hurt them just there feelings, even a kind of look could make people like that sad.
in general it is believed that a person is born with a tendency for bipolar disorder, it may or may not eventually develop depending on environmental factors. however some cases are triggered by physical injury to the brain (e.g. head trauma or stroke).
