Citizens cannot "charge" anyone with anything. Only law enforcement and prosecutors have the power to "charge" someone. However, you can FILE A COMPLAINT against the assaulter. After the lapse of 5 weeks it may prove difficult and you had better have credible witnesses and evidence to back up your story. HOWEVER - if you are referring to a DOMESTIC ASSAULT - you can go to court and file for a restraining order agaisnt that person
Yes, you can be charged up until the statute of limitations expires. Depending on jurisdiction and type of charge (felony/misd), you could be looking at several months to several years. In most instances a person is usually charged within the first 120 days for an assualt.
It means that someone assaulted someone else with the intent of doing them GREAT bodily harm, over and above a mere hand-to-hand fist-fight. In some jurisdictions this offense could amount to a charge of 'Assault With Intent to Maim.'
Sorry - but it would not be a motor vehicle traffic offense charge. You would probably be charged with Assault with a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon-Auto - or Assault with Intent to Kill. Realistically this charge would probably be reduced, but you asked - so I'm telling you the worst possible scenario.
The charges could range from assault, assault with intention to cause harm, to manslaughter if your victim dies, or murder if it can be proved you intended to kill your victim. Yes, you can go to prison. I cannot be more specific about possible charges because they vary from country to country, and I do not know what country you live in, so I'm trying to give a rough outline here. I'd strongly recommend you don't hit someone over the head with a snookerball in a sock. Possibly you might consider putting your sock back on and learning to play snooker? The charge could be anywhere from assault to assault with a deadly weapon to attempted murder. It would not be that hard to kill someone with a snooker ball in a sock...and yes, you can go to prison if you are charged with any of those.
Assault in the second degree is a felony. There is no standard sentence since every case is different and the laws vary in different jurisdictions. Sentencing varies and generally is determined after a trial.

If it isn't it should. why would you date someone who doesn't bother to call you in two weeks...
Let's say you want to borrow $100 for two week. Lender can charge you $15 for borrowing $100 for two weeks. You will need to return $115 to the lender at the end of 2 weeks. The cost of the $100 loan is a $15 finance charge and an annual percentage rate of 391 percent. If you decide to roll over the loan for another two weeks, lender can charge you another $15. If you roll-over the loan three times, the finance charge would climb to $60 to borrow the $100.
