if you did not work this year but had a new baby in may 2010 do you get the refund for your child
until the child is 18
If you are the one that supports those 5 children then yes. Nobody else can claim those children in their tax, and you need some prof of that claim (like: doctor's bills, receipts of item you got for them. Day care or school notes) in case you get audited.
Yes as long he and you meet the qualifications for you claim him as your qualifying child dependent on your income tax return. He would have to file his own income tax return reporting his own income and he would not be able to claim himself for exemption amount on his own income tax return.
People with children, foster or biological, can claim them as dependents which offers a substantial tax advantage, however they do still have to file their income tax return.
If you have earned income you claim as many as you have for an exemption however for the EIC credit you can only claim 3
Unemployment income does not effect your dependents and your ability to claim them on your return. As long as you meet the other requirement to claim your children then you can certainly claim them.

Children are not exempt from income tax. If they are old enough to receive income (whether that income is from work, investments, UGMA/UTMA accounts, interest, royalties, or whatever), then they are old enough to pay taxes. You cannot include your child's income on your tax return (except in one special case, see Form 8814). If the child is required to file a tax return or needs to claim a refund, a separate return must be filed for the child. If the child is not old enough to do it themselves, the parents can fill it out for them.
First you need to figure out if they are your dependents--living with you, you provide more than 50% of their support, and so on. If you can claim the children, you may have some deductions.
No not as a dependent. On the married filing joint income tax return the is an exemption on the 1040 tax form the same as the taxpayer.
For the 2008 tax year you were only allowed to claim the the EITC for 2 of the children that were listed on your 2008 income tax return.
