I'm looking to buy a snubbie. I have heard that the Det Special is the finest snubbie ever. I ran across a #10 SW snubbie and was blown away. I had never seen a short barrell 10. Questions: Which is better? ie: trigger (single vs double), quality, accuracy. I plan to carry the peace as personal protection. Thank your input. Don Harvey

You need to get it lettered by Colt. If it comes back as being made by Colt in stainless steel, you need a professional appraisal. The Det Spl was never offered for sale in stainless steel.
Of course the value of a Colt Det. Special w/ pearl grips will be dependant on several variables. The condition of the pistol is of course key, also which series Det. Special the gun is; 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th. Finally, the finish of the revolver will also affect the value. EXAMPLE: A 3rd series Colt Detective Special, in MINT condition, NIB (new in box), and with a Nickel finish -- $1,000 Blued finish $800.00.
