With the standard utilities of Unix you can compare up to 3 files line by line (using the diff3 utility). If you want anything more than that you will need to write a program or use a scripting language such as Perl to create a report.

How can you recover the overwritten files in SCO Unix HTFS file system?

AnswerRecovering any 'deleted' and/or 'overwritten' file in a typical Unix system is problematic and much more difficult to do reliably than it is with, say, a typical Windows system. This is a function of the way the files are stored on a Unix system, not a problem with, or feature of, the operating system itself. I suggest you obtain and study Wietse Venema's TCT (The Coroner's Toolkit) for further information. [JMH]

Where can you get a Unix shell for Windows?

A Unix shell can be obtained in Cygwin, a Unix compatibility layer used to compile Unix programs and run them on Windows. Microsoft also makes a shell known as "Windows PowerShell" which incorporates more Unix-like features than the standard command prompt.

What is the significance of a Unix file system?

Without a filesystem data and documents would be random and extremely hard to find. Unix files systems (XFS, NS, E2FS, Minix...) all have file level access control (owner, group, world) and allow very fine control over user rights. In addition, the way they handle files allows them to be fairly immune to disk/file fragmentation. Unix filesystems are built for multiple concurrent users so they must be more robust than say MS-DOS.

Why most of the time you use Linux to execute Unix commands?

How secure is Unix?

Unix is one of the more secure operating systems, but it would be difficult to give an exact answer. It is very easy (and possible) to make any operating system insecure. It takes individuals some amount of time to secure any operating system, and Unix is no exception to that.

When was the first software for Unix released?

Programs have existed since Unix was conceived: in fact, the operating system is no more than a kernel and user-space programs! Unix was first released in 1969, and along came with supplemental programs distributed as part of the original Unix operating system at AT&T Bell Laboratories.

Why do you think Unix and Linux share more commands than Windows XP and Unix?

Because Linux was modeled after Unix, and designed to be a suitable free replacement. Windows is targeted at a slightly different market, and was primarily designed to be operated using a GUI, not the command line.
