It really depends on what device you are connecting power to. It is not much of a concern if running the heavier 8ga. wire, into the lighter 10ga. wire, when dealing with a 12 volt system. There are variables that come into play when selecting wire size, such as amperage draw, and length of run. An 8ga. wire sounds like a battery cable for a small outboard engine. If dealing with a battery cable, it is good practice to replace the defective one, with a new cable of the same size. Always keep in mind, there is a reason that this size wire was used in the first place.

Can you connect a 8 gauge wire directly to a 10 or 12 gauge wire The appliance only requires 10 and 12 gauge but there is already 8 gauge running half way?

Yes you can. 8 ga. is better and more efficient than 12 ga. It will only benifit your install

What gauge of wire to connect electric dryer?

You need a 3 conductor #10 cable. A #10 wire is rated at 30 amps.

Can you use 10 gauge wire to connect a 2 15 amp outlets to a 30 amp breaker?

no

Is 8 gauge weld wire fencing stronger than 10 gauge wire?

Wire gauges are defined in such a way that the lower the gauge, the thicker the wire. So, 8 gauge wire is thicker than 10 gauge wire.

You are hooking up a 220v air conditioner you were told to use 10-2 wire how do you hook this up?

10-2 wire refers to 10 gauge, 2 conductor wire. Youshould use wire that is 10 gauge or larger (8 gauge, 6 gauge, 4 gauge, 2 gauge). The larger the wire, the more it will cost. most people install using the smallest size permitted, which in this case is 10 gauge. The are specifying the wire size to ensure that you do not connect the air conditioner to electric power using wire that is two small. If you are having problems with this type of question, you should consult an licensed electrician for help in connecting your air conditioner.

Can you splice a 10 ga wire to a 20 ga wire?

30 gauge wire is much "thinner" than 10 gauge wire. Hence, if you are using 10 gauge for an application requiring only 30 gauge, it will more than handle any current flow. However, if the application requires 10 gauge wire you cannot use 30 gauge wire.

What is difference between 10-2 and 10-3 wire?

10 is the gauge of the wire, 2 and 3 are how many leads are in the wire. For instance 10-2 wire is 10 gauge with two leads, 10-3 is 10 gauge with three leads.

What gauge is the black wire with red strip ground from the alternator?

What is no 10 copper wire?

#10 refers to the size in AWG (american wire gauge)

What type of wire gauge is used for a 30amp circuit?

10 gauge

How do you connect a 10 gauge wire to an 8 gauge wire?

Connecting different gauge wires are just like connecting wires of the same gauge. Connect the wires just as you normally would, and then once the you attach the wire nut, give the thinner wire a slight tug to make sure the wire is securely fastened. Usually when attaching fixtures, they are generally stranded wires. Be sure to twist the strands together before twisting them onto the solid wire. Then attach the nut onto them and tighten it securely. Connecting different gauge wires are just like connecting wires of the same gauge. What is thicker 10 gauge or 12 gauge?

You could be referring to anything from shotguns to steel plate, but I'll take a wild guess you are referring to wire gauge. 10 gauge wire is thicker than 12 gauge. If you were referring to something other than wire, write again and tell us what you are referring to.
