Right click the picture, copy it to your desktop, then when you go to change your profile pic, browse to your desktop, choose the pic, it uploads and voila!

go to paint copy and paste both pictures into paint. adjust the size so that both pictures fit equally and save it as one picture. then set that picture as your desktop background. OR buy adobe photo shop.

This is simple. Open the location that contains your picture. Choose the picture you want and right-click it. The dropdown box that appears will have a selection to "set as desktop background". Click this selection and the dropdown will disappear. The picture should be on your desktop.
The desktop picture is controlled in the System Preferences pane. Open System Preferences. Click 'Desktop and Screen Saver' Click the 'Desktop' tab Select or drag a new picture to the image of the desktop. It is possible to create a new folder for your desktop pictures there. In the left pane click the + sign, select or create a new folder at a location of your choosing. Copy your favorite desktop pictures into that folder using the Finder. Later when you open Desktop and Screen Saver/Desktop you will see your folder and when you click on it you will see all the pictures it contains. Click on the one you want. If you use multiple screens, you can drag the Desktop and Screen Saver window to another desktop and change its picture too. You don't need to close and reopen Desktop and Screen Saver pane each time.
if you mean background picture for your desktop, right click on you desktop, go to properties then go to Desktop in properties then browe for a picture and click apply
Right click on the picture and select set as wallpaper. Alternatively, you can save the picture and then go into your display properties (right click on the desktop) and select it as the picture.
