If you are using an original version of COD 4, you can easily make online server through multi player option.
If you have a cracked version, you can not make online server, untill you install a third party software, for example game ranger. Its just simple to make server through game ranger. Install it, create a free account, and enjoy playing online in various rooms and you can create your own server as well.

As I have only played Modern Warfare 2 on the PC I can only answer for that. Modern Warfare 2 does not have the option to have dedicated servers. This means that in each online game one of the players is automatically selected to be the server. This makes it impossible for a map other than one of the original ones to be hosted on a server.
If the server times out in Modern Warfare 2 do you stil get a match bonus?
