Checks and Balance is the act of the branches of government taking responsibility and accountability providing full disclosure to other branches of government which act in the same manner. One hand knows what the other hand is doing. The separation of powers can create contradicting regulations as well as instigate an internal struggle for power within a government. The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. The difficulty is that goals of each power are not always aligned or for the good of the governed.
Although it is not neccerssarily or explicitly put this way in text books the seperationof powers I feel is separating the citizens of this country from the decision making process of the elite.Who control the power. The term checks and balances could possible refer to the ability of the elite to check and balance the amount of power the masses are allowed to aquire. In contrast separation of power is more of division of the power power over major policy going to one particular body ie.ruling elite, and a power over lesser decisions going to less powerful bodies. whereas check and balances are more of the physical implemention of this process. Please do not use this anser on your homework assignment, it may technically not be correct.
