It all depends on the person. There are a lot of people out there that sleep better with a fan. Studies have shown that fans help people sleep in several ways. First, they keep you cool during the night so you don't get night sweats and wake up miserable. Second, the stimulation from air blowing across the face causes your mind to turn OFF (to a degree) outside stimulation which helps you stay asleep. Third, fans can mask a lot of the small noises that cause you to wake up during the night. There are websites that actually sell fans designed to help people sleep, see the link to sleepfans.com below in the related links section. All that to say, give it a shot, you may very well sleep better.

β 8y agoThere are a lot of myths and old beliefs from before science fully understood the mechanism of infection by rhinoviruses (the viruses causing the common cold). The idea of being out in the cold weather or in air drafts causing a "weakening" the immune system allowing for infections isn't true.

Your immune system doesn't need to work hard to keep you warm because immune response isn't responsible for temperature regulation, so that does not put any strain on the immune system or interfere with its ability to fight infections.
The best way to avoid colds is to wash your hands regularly, and steer clear of sick people as best you can.

β 9y agoIt should not be bad to sleep with a fan on even if you have a stuffy nose. The stuffy nose is caused by an underlying problem and not the fan.

Different people have different ways they like to sleep. You may like a fan to sleep with. Other people may have to use a TV to help them sleep at night. It is about your comfort and what helps you to sleep comfortable.

People do not die from lack of sleep- but they DO die from lack of food.
Well of course, anyone can die in their sleep doesn't matter if they are young or old.
