You can support the transmission with a jack or blocks and remove the bolts holding the transmission and engine together. It usually is much more difficult to remove both components at the same time, due to the extra weight and trying to balance them without having to raise everything to an unsafe height. make sure you unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel. makes it that much more easier
