As far as I know they are not poisonous to eat. So the simple answer is yes although it may taste like crap.
Plecos love to eat fresh water fungi. I had a lot of fungi in my freshwater fish tank and within 5 months all on the fungi was gone when i got a pleco

They eat vegatation in the water and some fish eat other fish. Many Freshwater fish also eat insects and freshwater crustaceans.
It is not harmful. But if you want to clean up the algae in the tank you want to get a pleco. They are very peaceful fish and will not harm angelfish. I have a pleco and three angelfish in my 35 gallon tank right now and they get along great!
