How about trying Pyracantha for edible berries? Bitter but you can make a jam.

Or, Aronia Melanocarpa (Chokeberry) which makes a nice jam and feeds the birds too, not to be confused with Prunus Virginiana aka Chokecherry which is also edible when fully ripe or can be made into jams. Sambucus nigra, Elderberry, makes a great cough syrup, wine or jam and feeds the birds as well in summer. Elderberry likes its roots near run-off or a stream but in a sunny spot. Lycium barbarum (Goji), Hippophae rhamnoides (Seaberry) and Vaccinium vitis-idaea (Lingonberry) or Viburnum trilobum (American highbush cranberry) may be worth a try. Jeannie at Highrockfarms.com

Well, that's a good question. I was actually wondering the same thing. I found some growing near my house and tasted one. Sweet and plump, tastes like honeysuckles! Some folks say they are bitter tasing and there is word that they may cause upset stomach , vomiting an dizzyness in children. So if you find some try one or two and check the flavor..the ones I had were good , but I only ate a few with no ill effects. They say Indians ate them and used them as medicine. If they taste ok and they don't make you ill or kill you I don't see the harm. Just don't eat any white berries off poision ivy..I hear it has white berries too. But I doubt they are very similar, still always be 110 perecnt sure when trying anything wild and check and recheck your sources to be safe and sure.
