What will you get as punishment for common assault?
It will be assumed that by the term "common assault" you are referring to what is known as "simple assault" which is an assault upon another person using nothing but hands or fists. . . in other words NO weapons of ANY kind at all. If this assumption is correct, (in the US) such a charge USUALLY amounts to a misdemeanor offense (i.e.: a maximum sentence of not more than one year in jail). No information is given about the age and/or past criminal history of the perpetrator so it is not possible to make any assumptions about a possible sentence which might be imposed.
