Can you die from an insect bite on a vein?

Yes you can get blood poisoning from insect bites. My daughter was bitten on the hand by what we think was a horsefly. Her hand swelled and became painful to use, the redness spread up the inside of her arm, she was diagnosed with blood poisoning and was given a course of strong antibiotics, fortunately we caught it in time and she was fine in a couple of days.

If you are allergic to that insect or if it is poisonous, the answer would be yes. Where is the vein?- Say its on your arm, if it gets hot and you can see a line going up your vein, go to the hospital immediately. Yes you can donate blood as the infection is only in a certain radius (as it will depend on what type of infection or what has caused the infection) of the insect bite and thus the surrounding area of the infection normally appears as a reddish colour where the immune system is fighting off the infection or germs and bacteria that has penetrated the body and is slowly starting to spread outwards and if the right procedure or medicine is followed the lymphocytes (which is part of the immune system and helps the body remember and recognize previous invaders) and phagocytes (which chew up the invaders) will defend the body and help that the infection doesn't spread further thru the body. So in other words only the infected area will be violable and the blood trapped in that area will and cannot be used and the body will discard the infected blood cells and jet again that is why there is a yellow liquid discharged from the infected area.
