They don't get paid by Wiki. However, my work is real slack and when I'm not busy I sit here and answer questions. So in a sense, I suppose I do get paid to answer these questions.

Yes, there is a staff of people who maintain and administer the site, but the vast majority of contributors are ordinary people from around the world. As you have experienced, there are disadvantages to wikis, but as you jump in and begin to have fun answering questions as well as asking them, you'll get to have a different experience of the site.
