∙ 10y agoRecurrence of chlamydia infections are common, but the situation is completely preventable by the patient. Chlamydia won't return unless you didn't finish treatment properly, or caught it again.
The most common reason is reexposure after treatment. You must abstain from oral, anal, and vaginal sex and genital-genital contact for seven days after treatment. Don't even have contact with a condom. Also, not following the treatment plan or discontinuing the use of the prescribed antibiotics may lead to the re-establishment of large amounts of bacteria that leads to infection.
Reexposure to chlamydia is so common that patients are routinely adivsed to be retested in three months after treatment. This recommendation isn't because the antibiotics aren't reliable; it's because the patients catch the germ again.
