People can get staph infections from contaminated objects, but staph bacteria often spread through skin-to-skin contact - the bacteria can be spread from one area of the body to another if someone touches the infected area.

Absolutely, this is highly contagious and if not treated for the symptoms properly can be deadly. Not only that, but can spread very fast. Always wash hands and under nails thoroughly with antibacterial soap. If you must touch ANYONE who might have that or other contagious conditions, use protective gloves ALWAYS. Staph can be very stubborn to treat. Be very careful.

Staph is a common bacteria in the mouth - up to 80% of the population will have it. This doesn't mean that there is an infection, staph is commonly found on and in the body without causing an infection. If there is an infection (redness, swelling, pus) then it is certainly possible that staph is the bug.
