You can have as many spouses as you want -male of female*- as long as they don't find out about each other. What I did was have 1 or 2 spouses in each sub-region of Albion.
* You can have many female spouses is if they are; bi-sexual or straight. You can have many male spouses if they are; gay or bisexual if you're avatar is male.
