Vitamin D doesn't actually come from sunlight- it isn't transmitted by it.
Vitamin D is synthesized (produced) inside of our skins from higher energy light (like UV light).

The only thing that comes from sunlight is that UV light- our bodies do the rest.
UV light can pass through glass and water, but depending on the type of glass and the depth of the water, a large amount of it can be reflected away or absorbed by the material before it touched your skin.

If you lived under UV reflective glass (many kinds of glass are made with special coatings, or certain substances in them to do this), then your body wouldn't be able to produce as much vitamin D as from direct sunlight. The average pane of glass isn't going to interfere very much, though, if you get enough sunlight through it. Regardless, actually going outside is better.

Most people in the modern world spend a large amount of time inside, and this can lead to vitamin D deficiency if they don't get any Vitamin D in their diets or through taking vitamins (this is another way to get vitamin D, instead of making it in one's skin).
Whether one can produce enough vitamin D or not depends on how pale the skin is (a tan protects against UV, but it's a double edged sword- it can prevent cancer, but also prevent production of vitamin D), how much skin is exposed (how much clothing one is wearing), and how long one spends in the sunlight.

Can you absorb Vitamin D through a window?

Vitamin D is formed in the skin by the action of light on the skin, particularly ultra-violet light. Sunlight or a tanning bed will provide the necessary light. Sunlight shining through a window will work, but the window glass will absorb a lot of the necessary untraviolet radiation, so it will be a diminished effect.

How much vitamin D is in a glass of milk?

No. Milk does not naturally contain vitamin D. It's added voluntarily as a supplement. Your body makes vitamin D when your skin is directly exposed to the sun. That is why it is often called the "sunshine" vitamin. Most people meet at least some of their vitamin D needs this way. Your skin has a large capacity to make vitamin D. Just 10-15 minutes in the sun is the equivalent of taking between 15,000 and 20,000 IU's of Vitamin D, but without the potential for toxicity that is becoming more common as people take larger doses of it orally. there is a difference between Vitamin D synthesized from the sun and Vitamin D taken orally, since there are at least 5-10 additional photoproducts made in response to sun exposure that are not in the supplement form of Vitamin D. People who do not live in sunny places may not make enough vitamin D. Skin that is exposed to sunshine indoors through a window will not produce vitamin D. Cloudy days, shade, and having dark-colored skin also cut down on the amount of vitamin D the skin makes. If you don't get any sun exposure, you need to take a supplement to maintain healthy levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in your blood. And don't forget that fish is also a food that contains vitamin D.

What is the name of the vitimin the sun gives us?

Im not sure though but from what i know. the sun is responsible for the production of vitamin D in our body. Most of the foods that we consumed are vitamin D precursor. Meaning it is inactive. But the vitamin D can only be active if we are exposed to the sun. In addition. . . from what i read in one of the website(cant remember what the website was.). . it stated that "the healing rays of natural sunlight cannot penetrate through glass (e.g car's window) so not Vitamin D regenerated" . . this is a situation when you are in your car driving. . I hope this could help you a bit. . 8 least you get an idea from what im saying here.
