You can, but it cannot eat it. Mantids bite their prey, and injest its juices. Lunch meat has no juices therein, so the mantis cannot digest it.

How to keep a praying mantis alive in winter?

I have had a praying mantis since October 2010. In January 2011 the praying mantis is still with us. Although she has slowed alot over these past few months she continues to eat well. I have been feeding her lunch meat, turkey, ham, roast beef, chicken, bologna and scrambles eggs. Recently she hasn't seemed to be able to chew the solid food as she had so I am now feeding her meat based baby food. She take water from a baby spoon.

Can a praying mantis eat raw meat?

Well... Many people would say no, that you should feed a praying mantis live insects (Which are usually quite cheap from most pet shops) but I think it is okay. I had a pet praying mantis that I fed raw meat and he seemed to be fine and lived 6 months like an ordinary praying mantis. So if you want to be safe, I suggest feeding it crickets or mealworms. (But only to an adult mantis, don't feed nymphs crickets or mealworms)

Does a praying mantis eat bees?

You probably won't believe this but here we go! Eailer today I found a mantis walking across my drive way. I picked him/her ( don't know the sex type) and brought it inside to show to friends. My buddy looked around to give the creature a meal. Instead he comes back with honey from the cabinet. Put a drop of honey on a joker from the deck of cards and the mantis started eatting it! Don't know if its good or bad for them.

What kind of fruit does a praying mantis eat?

Not fruits: Praying Mantis's or Mantids prefer to catch their own food. You can purchase crickets, meal worms, or other insects at many pet stores, or catch flies and release them into the mantis's cage. Their diet is high in protein, so if you have a pet and it is unable to get food on it's own, you may be able to give small amounts of canned (ground) cat food slowly by spoon...nudging it gently towards it's mouth. Water it the same way if unable to fend for its self.

Would praying mantis take bites from silver-beet leaves or young green leaves of lemon trees?

We watched a Praying Mantis consume almost all of the leaves of our dwarf Citrus Tree, orange. Almost no leaves are left. Upon our research, we found that they will take control over a tree from other Praying Mantis. We watched the Praying Mantis from a baby to shed it shell, grow larger and then turn from green to brown. We now have many Praying Mantis in our yard, but they do not seem to consume the leaves as this first Praying Mantis. We do not know why. We have seen one very large belly Praying Mantis, I wonder if this one is pregnant, some very small babies and now some medium size Green Praying Mantis in the yard this year. They are timid and do not appreciate being moved from tree to tree, as this takes them away from the Tree or bush they have adopted as their own. We understand that some Praying Mantis will protect their adopted tree or bush, correct? Anyways, all is well now with the Citrus Trees. When we had a Patio Cover in the yard and grew vegetables around the Patio Cover, they would eat these leaves also. You could watch them consume a large leaf a day. Has anyone else had these experiences? Canyon Country, CA
