The PS3 has its own internal Wireless G Wi-Fi adapter; all you need to do is to ensure your Router is setup correctly for the PlayStation Network / PS3 (Port Setup), and that you select Wireless in your Network Setup menu.
If you have an N Router and want N speeds, you'll need to get an N gaming adapter and connect it via Ethernet cable (most come with their own) to the PS3's Ethernet port. Select Wired on the Network Setup and you'll automatically bypass the internal adapter and connect to your Router through the gaming adapter.
The information for your Router setup is:
ROUTER NAT AND UPnP MODES - ENABLED
*Note: Make sure to enable these TCP/UDP ports in BOTH directions (i.e, for Routers that have TCP, UDP, and Both for settings, set them to Both. If your Router doesn't have that type of setting, set the Port to either TCP or UDP as indicated, and enable the pass-through in both directions (full duplex))
TCP Ports: 10070 - 10080 UDP Ports: 10070 Voice Chat: UDP 6000-7000, 10070 (for headset operation) Remote Play via Access Point: TCP 9293
PLAYSTATION Network: TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223 UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658
The information is from a popular long post of mine on the PS3 forums with screen shots of my own Router setup along with tips. The link to it is below.
yes
No, the DS won't connect to the PS3.
The PS3 does not have a router. It can go online with an ethernet cable connected to a router or modem or with WiFi from a wireless router or modem
You need to access the internet from your PS3 to go to the PlayStation network from your PS3. It does not have to be WiFi it can also be ethernet cable, but nothing else
Wherever there is wifi
PS3 can only get an online connection with DSL or Cable WiFi or ethernet
No the PS3 requires a WiFi or ethernet connection
Yes it can and also wired with an ethernet cable, but not without internet access that you must purchase
First you have a PS3 set up to a TV. Then you have an internet service. Then you purchase devices to allow the PS3 to connect to the internet like WiFi routers or Modems or an ethernet cable and a router or modem to connect it to. Then you go to the settings menu of the PS3 for internet connect and complete the set up for an internet connection. Without internet service and connection devices an online connection is not possible. The PS3 has WiFi which only means that it can connect to your WiFi internet service that you have set up. it does not mean you get an internet connection without having access to an internet service
