Although many piercers know how to do so, the FDA classifies the removal of dermal anchors as a surgical procedure (although ironically, the insertion of one is not). As such it is ILLEGAL for a piercer to remove them, you have to go to a doctor. Sucks, I know, but dem's the breaks.

What are dermal piercings?
You could either mean dermal anchors or surface piercings. I think that you mean dermal anchors. Dermal anchors have little "feet" that are put n=beneath your skin by creating a pocket with either a needle or with the punch technique (this uses the tool that's also used for lobe and cartilage punches). The foot it placed in this pocket. The foot has holes in it that tissue will grow through to keep it in place. The dermal anchor has a threaded hole that you use to change jewelry. Dermal anchors are lots of work because you have to be very careful that they don't reject or get snagged on something and ripped out. If done correctly, the jewelry will be flush with your skin and the foot of the anchor is not visible. The jewelry can be screwed off and you can wear balls, gems, or flat pieces in them.

If you get it , use dermal anchors. Basically they cut a slit and insert the foot of the dermal into that slit. It hurts for some, and not for others. Every piercing is going to hurt but there isn't a way to determine just how badly it will.

They are subject to infection and rejection and can only be removed by a licensed Doctor, the installation of dermal anchors is illegal in some US states. Jewellery changing needs to be done by your body piercer, specialized tools are needed to hold the anchor while the jeweled top is changed. Healing times can vary form person to person. This is something that needs to be done by a qualified professional body piercer who has received training in the use of dermal anchors. Be aware there are morons out there that claim they know what they are doing and will install these in locations that a subject to rejection, snagging and tearing. So do your research and seek out a truly experienced professional who really knows what they are doing.
