You can't have it removed for being a merchant marine, but it doesn't hurt to contact the creditor and tell them your situation. They will sometimes remove late payments based on previous payment history and/or goodwill. You can also dispute it with the credit bureaus and try to have it removed that way.

how does the credit card payment system work?

When you authenticate a payment on a card, the merchant's payment system will send a request to the card issuer to ensure that funds are available either in the account or in credit. The card issuer will supply an authentication code to the merchant approving the transaction. The card issuer will then arrange for the transfer of funds to the merchant's bank.

what is merchant account?

A merchant account is a type of bank account that allows businesses to accept electronic payments, such as credit and debit card payments, from customers. The account is set up with a merchant acquiring bank or payment processor and enables businesses to receive funds from credit or debit card transactions after the payment has been processed through the payment gateway. When a customer makes a payment with a credit or debit card, the payment is processed through the payment gateway and then transferred to the merchant's bank account. The merchant account is used to hold the funds until they are settled and deposited into the merchant's business bank account. Merchant accounts typically come with fees, such as transaction fees and processing fees, which are charged by the payment processor or acquiring bank. The fees can vary depending on the type of transaction, the payment processing method, and the specific terms of the merchant account agreement. Merchant accounts are essential for businesses that want to accept electronic payments, as they allow businesses to expand their payment options and increase sales revenue.

What is credit card processing?

Credit card processing is all about how businesses get paid when you use your credit card to buy things. There are a few steps that payment processing involves merchants, payment companies, banks, and more. Here's how it works in simple terms: Authorization: When you buy something with your credit card, the merchant asks your bank if the payment can go through. Your bank checks if you have enough money and if everything is okay. If it is, they say "yes" to the merchant, and the payment is approved. Settlement: Once your bank says "yes," it tells the merchant and its bank. The merchant bank then moves the money from your bank to your bank. It's like the banks talking to each other to make sure everything is settled. Funding: Now, the merchant gets the money from your purchase in their bank account. This is when they receive the cash from your credit card buy. Using credit cards is important for stores because it makes buying things easy for customers, and it's safe. But if you want to make this flow good, businesses need to choose a good payment processor to handle these steps. And if you are salesforce user then there is a good option for payment processing available called “ChargeOn”. It will seamlessly handle your all payment processing.
