Yes. BUT, you can only keep it if it is red. You have to feed it hamburger (or portions of hamburger) Then you have to teach it to fly to you via word, because it will nearly always fly away when let out of it's cage. This can easily be done by saying "Red Robin!" and it will nearly always say "Yum!" and fly to you.

Robins are very friendly birds. They are known to approach humans when food is nearby. In some rare cases they may eat food out the hand of a human.

However, you need to bear in mind that it may be illegal for you to keep one. Robins are generally wild birds. It is extremely rare to find domesticated Robins. Taking a bird from the wild home as a pet is a violation of conservation laws. Young birds particularly need to stay with parents to learn how to fly and hunt - a human cannot teach these skills to a bird - without them, the bird will die.

Wild birds are also used to making nests to sleep in and flying in the open sky. A cage is a strange environment and cannot provide the space or resources for a nest or a sky to fly in. Therefore the bird can become depressed, causing it to pull out its own feathers and eventually die. Depression is the number one killer of pet birds.

You need to check local law before considering a robin as a pet.

If you rescued a robin, an exception may be granted. For example, if you took a poorly robin to the vet and the vet says it needs supervision, you may be able to volunteer to adopt it. Some places however may still require a licence.

So, yes, a robin does make a good and friendly pet, but the question you should be asking is "CAN I keep a robin in my local area".
