I am not a medical professional, but just two nights ago I had a migraine while I was sleeping. I would not have realized it, except that my daughter's cell phone rang in the middle of the night and woke me up. My migraines always start with an aura, and I quickly realized that I was in the middle of the aura. I am doing further research to see why this happens.

Hi, i am 14 years old and male. Today i had a horrible night mare that i was having a migraine. I had this nightmare for hours. Then when i woke up, the left side of my head was hurting and i had some horrible nausea which i still have as i write this. No one ever told me you could have migraines while asleep, but I think you can.

I'm 66 and a migraine sufferer since the age of 11. My migraines also start with an aura and I don't usually feel much more unless I cough or sneeze the next day when one side of the head hurts.

Last night I dreamt I was having an aura. This morning I woke up feeling foul and with a right lobe pain when I coughed. This isn't the first time so definitely you can get a migraine whilst asleep. No preventative medication as far as I know.

Yes, absolutely. In fact, this is one of the most common times to develop stroke symptoms. Unfortunately, this also means the patient is ineligible for thrombolytic therapy, since one of the mandatory criteria is knowing when symptoms started. If they occur while asleep, we cannot pinpoint that time, and we exclude you from lytic therapy.
