No, you can not. An exception would be if, in a public school where capital punishment is not allowed, a teacher physically hit another student. But unless your teacher hit you and it's illegal to do so in your district, then no, you can't sue.

If a teacher hits you, it is assault and you can try for criminal charges.
As for hitting back, you probably could, but it is not recommended.

∙ 10y agoIt is not legal for a teacher to hit a student, just as it is not legal for a student to hit a teacher. Doing so would be assult in most areas.
Policies on spanking, which is not considered the same as randomly hitting a student and almost always has to be witnessed or done by the principal, vary. In many areas, spanking is no longer done.

You will be suspended for assault, that's for sure. Some schools have a policy to immediately expel you. other schools have a policy to hold a hearing (school court) to decide whether to expel you.
It is the teacher's legal right to call the police and press charges against you. A criminal record will make it extremely difficult for you to get a job, get loans and so on. You can be arrested from the age of 9 onwards.
