Crested geckos are a solitary species only encountering the same species during mating season. Males that smell the presence of a female will let out a chirping call to attract a mate. When two males meet, they will fight for the rights of breeding and territory. This species is native to a island of New Caledonia where other Racodactylus species roam the terrain. There is only one island that the crested gecko is native to and do not encounter other gecko species. As hobbyst's or breeders we are trying to replicate their natural envoirenment, therefore in the wild the crested would not live with other species, in your tank you cannot let 2 or more species co exist. Although cresteds are easy to care for they are fagile and will not grow another tail. Do not house multiple species together.

Depending on the gecko species will determine the price of the animal. More common species are usually sold at a lower value such as the: house gecko, turner gecko, golden gecko, tokay gecko, skunk gecko. Other species such as crested geckos, leopard geckos and gargoyle geckos can range from $60 - $500. There are even "sought out" or "desired" species of gecko than can range upwards of $1000-$4000 this could include: Leachianous geckos, Green geckos, Chaoua geckos.
A leopard gecko comes from the deserts of Afganistan and south easter Asia. A Crested gecko comes from the rainforests of New Caledonia. Their habitats are much to different from one another to ever co-exist. All Gecko species are territorial and will not greet one of the same species unless its breeding season. Do not house any other specie with a crested gecko or a leopard gecko.
90% of the time the two species do not require the same care. In most cases, people will try to house a leopard gecko with a crested gecko. Leopard geckos live in heat reaching 105F each day with up to 14 hours of light and 0% humidity, very dry. The crested gecko live in temps never exceeding 80F with 10-12hours of sunlight and up to 90% humidity. One of the species is guaranteed death depending on what the setup of the tank is (desert or tropical)
