The manufacturer of your processor does not matter as long it meets the minimum requirement of your operative system.
You should be able to install ether or even both.
Since Windows (at least the kind most people use) only runs on x86 and x86-64 processor, the "best" processor for both would be the most powerful processor from Intel or AMD.

It would depend on the motherboard, chipset and CPU attachment type. In most cases, it should work, but in some rare cases it wont.
Its not the fastest, but the AMD 64 processor is still fast.

If the computer has an x86 (Intel, AMD or VIA) processor and a traditional BIOS, yes.
That would go on a socket-7 motherboard. Socket-7 is the same platform as what was used for the original Pentium processor. That was out around the time that Windows 95 and Windows 98 were popular.
Amd is just awesome then intel.
