Bees can become aggressive when threatened, or when their hive is endangered.

Knocking their hive down is probably the most overtly aggressive action you could take against a colony of bees, and will most certainly result in an angry swarm. Angry bees may attack indiscriminately, so just being nearby is probably a bad idea.

When bees attack, they release a pheromone that signals other bees to attack. Any nearby bees that detect the pheromone will be driven to look for something to attack also, and will also release more attack pheromones in the process.

If you're daft enough to try squashing your attackers, you'll only make things worse; you may inadvertently cause the release of large amounts of the pheromone, and if you're really daft, you'll have smeared it all over your clothes or skin. You'll be lit up to the senses of any nearby bees like a neon sign that says "please sting me"!

The interesting thing about the way bees sting is that they deploy a barb when attacking large animals like you - this is something they do not do when attacking (or defending against) other insects. This means that when they sting, they are usually unable to disengage. Should you swipe one off, it may leave behind its sting with the stinger sac still attached. This sac will continue to pump venom into your skin; if you look closely, you can actually see it flex and pulse as it continues working.

Now, while one bee sting can be harmless (if painful) to the average person, hundreds of stings are far from harmless, and it only takes a certain number of stings to be fatal to anyone. If you're really unlucky and happen to be hypersensitive to bee stings, even one sting can be fatal.

In short, the dangers of knocking down a bee hive include severe pain, hospitalisation, and a horrible and unpleasant death.

It can be very dangerous to do so. The bees will certainly try to defend their hive, you could be stung many times. Find an experienced beekeeper to help you!

Disturbing a bee hive will anger the bees. This will cause the bees to swarm and begin to attack you.

How does a bee defend itself?

if you would get to close to a hive many of the bees woulde probably try to sting you.bee stings don't kill people except for killer bees which only live in some parts of Africa. if you are allergic to bee stinge it may kill you if it is not taken care of quickly.but it is very fatal... if your a bee,so bees don't want to sting you but they will if they think you are a threat to the hive. It stings its attacker and releases a neurotoxin that hurts the animal. The bee then subsequently dies as they can only sting once.

You have ground bees will ammonia kill them?

Ammonia alone will not kill bees. The most effective way to get rid of bees is to have a professional bee-keeper collect the bees. If that is not possible, pick up sevin dust at your local lawn and garden center. Sprinkle this on the bee hive or nest.

Do bees return to the same nest?

A foraging bee will always return to its home hive. Any bee trying to enter the wrong hive will be challenged by the guard bees at the entrance and will generally be repelled, though a single bee who exhibits submissive behaviour to the guard bees may be accepted. This behaviour by the guard bees is to prevent the hive's food stocks being robbed by other colonies.
