Intelligence truly shrinks with age. During the age of 50,it shrinks slightly, losing about 30 grams (a little more than an ounce) since the neurons starts dying out and they can't be replaced because 'Brain Cells' lack in centrosome. This results in the decrease in the surface area and in the no. of brain cells causing gradual mental degradation! The good news about aging and intelligence is - people who continue to use their brains all their lives do not lose intelligence the way people who do not use their brains do. If you keep learning new things, trying new things, thinking new thoughts, and exercising your brain cells, they'll stay healthy and fit.

Yeah, you can. For example by serious brain damage. Fortunately, brain can adapt and undamaged parts can partly work instead of damaged, but scientists still don't know how. But there are other theories about this too.

What is different between AI and NI?

Ø Human intelligence revolves around adapting to the environment using a combination of several cognitive processes. The field of Artificial intelligence focuses on designing machines that can mimic human behavior. However, AI researchers are able go as far as implementing Weak AI, but not the Strong AI. In fact, some believe that Strong AI is never possible due to the various differences between the human brain and a computer. So, at the moment, the mere ability to mimic the human behavior is considered as Artificial Intelligence. Ø Artificial Intelligence (AI) can learn, just like natural intelligence (NI). When programmed to, Artificial Intelligence can sense changes in its environment and react accordingly. It can then refer to the ways it reacted to previous changes to help decide what to do the next time a similar change occurs. Ø Both Artificial Intelligence and natural intelligence are mortal. Like humans, Artificial Intelligence can cease working and all that is needed is a natural or man-made disaster to occur. Ø One big difference between Artificial Intelligence and natural intelligence is the fact that natural intelligence can forget and lose information. Artificial Intelligence could do this if it was program to do so, but this would be counter-productive.

Is it possible to lessen your intelligence?

Certainly you can become less intelligent! One of the old sayings that is still true is "Use it or lose it!" If you don't keep on learning new things, trying new skills, and exercising your brain, it will become less able to think for you. This is why many elderly people seem "out of it" sometimes. You can also lost a LOT of intelligence by abusing drugs and alcohol. Flooding your body with harmful chemicals kills brain cells, and fewer brain cells means less intelligence.Of course, you can lose intelligence through accident or disease as well, but it didn't seem as if you were asking about those.
