You can't just take two cats and make a new breed. One was to be a pure bred of some breed. The other depends on what kind of breed your trying to make, long-haired or short-haired. If you're trying to make a long-haired, you would take the pure-bred and find a cat that is has the same fur color as the pure-bred. The same with short-hairs, only it would be short-haired.

Are tabbies better pets than other cats?

The tabby cat is the coat pattern of every domestic cat's ancestors, so in reality, all cats have a bit of tabby in them. Perhaps it is this pattern that people associate with the typical mixed-breed house cat, often regarded as the best cat for keeping as a pet, although mixed breed cats can have any personality. What breed you get depends on your tastes, whether you prefer a cat that is outgoing, friendly, vocal, quiet, gregarious, lazy. So really, it's hard to say, but I think tabby cats, being simply an individual in a uniform coat, make just as good pets as any other mixed breed cat.

Is the Abyssinian a good breed for inexperienced cat owners to own?

It depends on the prospective owner's lifestyle, and how much they have researched the breed. This cat breed, like with any animal, should not be bought on a whim, and any responsible breeder would not sell anyone a kitten or cat who has not done any research. Abyssinian's are an incredibly active breed; they thrive on attention and interaction. It is said that this breed is highly playful, willful and intelligent, however they do not often make good lap cats, due to a high drive for exploring. Owners who have had cats before may do well with such a breed.
