If the CD contains photos or music they will work on a Mac. If the CD contains a Windows program it will not run on any Apple computer.

You have to have a program that is actually using this port for it to be "open." As long as the program is not blocked by Windows Firewall, the port will be open.

It depends on what you mean by computer process. If you want to see computer processes [such as a running program], and have a Windows then open the Task Manager by pressing ctrl-alt-delete.
If you have Windows, use Windows Media Player to open/view videos.
