Armed Forces officers on ACTIVE and RESERVE duty are rigidly banned from involvement in politics. This was brought about as a response to a certain yes, Air Force officer ( then under the Army as the song brought out)- who ran a virtual multi-state political campaign although he was still a reserve officer and technically on active duty. He used his military rank in his political maneuvers. This was a huge scandal that FDR had difficulty in controlling, and may be indirectly responsible for the Political military ban. Of course all Armed Forces members- including enlisted personnel, are allowed to vote, but that is light years away from rallies at Madison Square Garden.
