Best Answer

Ammonia (NH3) is a toxic gas which can cause you to pass out or even die if you inhale too much of it. However, the small amount which you may encounter in an ammonia based cleaning fluid is not dangerous (if that's what you are worried about).

Does ammonia dissociate in air by ozone or uv?

ammonia dissociate in air , if bromide available.products of dissociation is nitrogen and water. Ammonia can dissociate by UV in air. Ozone can turn bromide ion to bromate ion, and bromate ion can turn ammonia to nitrogen gas and water. The cheapest method of treating ammonia in water, is to pass the water stream through a wetlands, and let (micro)biology use it for a foodsource.

What is the substance used to dry ammonia?

By drying ammonia, I guess you mean ammonia gas.. To dry ammonia gas you pass it through a drying tube of sorts filled with KOH or NaOH pellets. This method is for almost dry gas, if you are getting your ammonia gas from a ammonia/water solution you probably have to predry it with anhydrous sodium sulfate or some other sort of dessicant before you lead it through the KOH/NaOH pellet filled drying tube.

Why does the liver change ammonia into urea?

Ammonia is a breakdown product of proteins that is toxic to vertebrates. The body needs to get ammonia out of the body. By itself, ammonia is a small volatile molecule that will leak back and forth through cell and vessel membranes, making it hard for it to be gathered and excreted. Urea is made of two ammonia molecules. Because it is bigger, it is no longer volatile and cannot pass through membranes without special channels or transporters. This allows it to me concentrated in the urine for excretion from the body.
