For a Hydrangea Macrophylla, it is best to plant in early summer or fall. You will want an area with moist well-drained soil, with morning sun and afternoon shade. The further north one lives the more sun hydrangeas need and can withstand (think 3 hours minimum) in Colorado and if well taken care of, they will thrive. Remember, the pH level of your soil will change the color of your flowers.
