Yes it is called drop tuning. Drop tuning is used to play lower notes than you could normally play in standard tuning.
On your EQ, turn down the treble and turn up the bass. Also you can turn your tone down all the way.
You cant alter the "length" of the string , only the tension. Your guitar has the length it has and that's what the string is limited to.
