The sound and the lights are great.

This whole thing is idiomatic.

Sons et lumiere translates literally to sounds and light. It is a form of entertainment, usually put on at night in the open air, composed of various sounds (mainly music) and everything from searchlights to lasers. It is never translated into English, any more than 'cirque du soleil' or 'folies bergeres' would be.

Chouettes literally translates to little cabbages ! How an English speaker would express the sentiment depends very much on the nationality and age of the speaker. An American teenager would probably say 'cool'; an adult brit could well say 'nice' and an Australian might go for 'bonzer'.
