Usually if your stick is sloppy it is due to the plastic bushes being worn out ! They aren't expensive to replace ($30aud) and basic to fit from inside the car
it is a long tube/cylinder that is found inside the gas tank, you can get to it by lifting the back carpet and rubber and remove the small pannel you find underneth
check the cranck angle sensor in the front of engine if not working car never start
No. 88 is a series 4 2nd gen and 91 is a series 5 2nd gen.
the ECU is likely different as the 89 engine has several changes that increase the power from previous versions. see if you can have the idle adjusted, if not find an ECU from an 89
