no but usually a guinea pig will wait till it is quiet or there is no one in the room to go to sleep. if it goes to sleep with you in the room then that means it doesnt see you as somthing that might eat it.

It depends. If it's winter and there is cold temperatures outside then yes. You can buy hutch covers that keep their cages warm at pet shops. But in the summer they don't need covering because it gets too warm and they can die in hot temperatures.

Yes. My little brother covers it with a blanket every night but he still needs to understand that they need a side that isn't covered so that they can breathe. I would only recomend doing this if you normally open a window and turn on a fan that's right in front of it. The blanket should keep them warm. Never put a blanket on top and leave them in direct sunlight or else they could get too warm or hot!

Can you make a guinea a pig cage out of legos?

I guess you could. However guinea pigs need lots of space to run, so you would need a TON of legos. Also make sure the guinea pig can't jump over the walls, that they can't be knocked down, and if they chew on them to much, you will need to get a new cage as this is bad. Try looking on guinealynx.info or guineapigcages.com for more info about guinea pigs.

Do the guinea pigs need to be in their own cage when pregnant?

You need to keep any males out of the same cage that a pregnant female is in. You can keep other females with the pregnant one. If you think you may have a problem with the pregnant one, you can cage her by herself.

Do you need papers for show guinea pigs?

No, you don't need a pedigree or a registered animal to show a guinea pig. They do need to fit the breed standard and have no disqualifications for the breed and variety. For more info check http://www.acbaonline.com and http://www.arba.net

Can chicken wire be a guinea pig cage?

Opinion 1: No, it is nor okay. They can severely damage their feet and can cause a painful infection. Get a cage with no wire floor.Opinion 2:There is absolutely no problem with having a guinea pig cage with a wire floor. Having bred guinea-pigs for a great many years, I can assure you that never once did any of our guinea-pigs suffer any damage at all to their feet as a result of a wire cage.Wire floor cages are necessary in warmer parts of the world where the guinea-pigs spend all their time utdoors. this way, they can still get to the grass underneath the cage, and engage in their natural behaviour, which is to graze. If your guinea poig cage does not have a wire floor, or some other way for the guinea pig to get to the grass, you are depriving it of something which is instinctive. If your guinea pig is a completely indoors guinea pig (which is unnatural in itself), the floor of its cage must be wood or some other sturdy material with no gaps. Wire floor cages are only good if the cage sits flat on the ground.

What kind of shelter does a guinea pig need?

Guinea pigs are great pets that deserve a great home., Guinea pigs need a shelter or a cage that is big enough for your guinea pig to have a little area to eat and drink , one to sleep, and others.. I have two guinea pigs and their cage is is 4feet long.. That's what I have for two guinea pigs. They should have a little igloo for them to hide in or something similar like a little bridge or something. They should have proper bedding/litter. They need a bowl for food (pellets) and space for hay and either a water bottle or a water bowl.

Would it hurt to put a cover on a guinea pigs cage?

That depends on the kind of cover and the type of cage. If it is a regular wire cage, you can place any breathable cloth over the cage. If you are talking about a plastic cover, the concern would be suffocation. Guinea pigs need to breath just like humans do, and if they are deprived of air they will die from suffocation. So be sure the cover is "breathable" meaning that it is a cloth through which air can pass through. Under those circumstances the cover will not harm the guinea pigs, but if you leave it covered for too long the guinea pig may become agitated or uneasy.

Is it cruel to keep a guinea pig in a hamster cage?

Guinea pigs need space to move around in, and some hamster cages are pretty small. Ideally a guinea pig needs at least 0.75 sq. m. If your pet seems like it does not like its cage, get a bigger cage soon

How big is a guinea pig house?

For a cage you need a minium of 7.5 feet for 1 guinea pig. In reality, a guinea pig can live happily in a smaller cage which measures around 3 feet x 2 feet. guinea pigs are grazing animals and they do not need a lot of space. If you have an outdoor cage with a wire base and move it around on fresh grass regularly, it will be very happy in a smaller space.
