No you can not. The 98 computer is not programed to shift the 89 transmission.
Besides that your wiring harness on the 98 will not hook up to the 89 trans.
You need to go back with the factory 4L80E trans. That belongs in the 98.
No it will not even bolt up. GM redesigned the transmission and its not even close to being the same as the 1989 trans.
