The strength of the transom isn't the problem. There's a fairly complex formula to determine the biggest engine your boat can safely use - it takes into account the length of the boat and width of the transom. If you put more engine on the boat than it's rated for, it could cause an accident you'd be held responsible for.
The best rated outboard motor companies are Honda, Yamaha, Mercury, Evinride, and Suzuki. These companies are rated on their performance with only a helmsman and a test equipment operator.
No, not a good idea to use vegetable oil. Use a TC-W3 rated, 2 stroke outboard oil blended for outboard use.
factory rated at 275 horse but it was under rated, more like 300 horse.
It is rated PG-13
The highest official rating of any horse since the 'international classification' began was given to Dancing Brave in 1986. His official rating was, I believe, 141. Currently the highest rated horse in Britain is Kauto Star rated 186. Sheargar was the highest rated flat horse at 140.
Without knowing the year, I can only tell you what is a safe mix. Fuel/Oil mix: 24:1 (87 octane gas to TC-W3 rated outboard oil), would be a safe mix. If you find that at this mix it smokes excessivly, then switch to a 32:1 mix, which is still a very safe mix.
I've run every outboard I've ever had at 50:1. Be sure to use oil rated for marine use. www.westmarine.com
