Order firmware at sony.com or call 1-866-748-8272. They'll send you a firmware disc through the mail or ups or fedex. Then once you have it, put it in your blu ray player and it'll start up, then you set it up to play your dvds and blu ray dvds on 16x9 and with out cutting off the sides and get rid of the black bars at the top and bottom and then you should be good and ready to go!. All movies have different aspect ratios, if it's a animated, then it WILL NOT HAVE THE BLACK BARS, if it's live action then it'll have BLACK BARS on the top and bottom and WILL NOT CUTT OFF THEN SIDES EITHER. IF YOU HAVE FIRMWARE ALREADY IN YOUR SONY BLU RAY PLAYER, then it be PLAYING YOUR BLU RAYS AND DVDS IN 16x9 WITH OUT THE BLACK BARS AND WITH THE INTERACTIVITY WORKING TO IT"S EXTREME BEST THAT IT CAN!.
The Xbox 360 is not made to play Blu-ray DVDs. It will only play standard DVDs and this is likely the source of your problem.

It's true that a PS3 can play Blu-Ray discs just like a regular Blu-Ray player. While there is no specific need for a separate Blu-Ray player, some people might want a separate player so that they will not put unnecessary wear and tear on their PS3 gaming system. Sometimes you have to purchase the Blu-ray player because it is included in the better Home Theater Systems. They can also require internet connections
One can put a PlayStation 3 game in a Blu-ray Disc player, since the discs have the same physical dimensions. However, PlayStation 3 games have proprietary formatting and require the PlayStation 3 architecture to operate. As such, a regular Blu-ray Disc player/drive will be unable to read the contents of the disc, unless expressly stated by the publisher of the game.

Yup!! You sure can. You can also play Blu-ray movies on the ps3. A blu-ray is a disk that is better quality then a DVD. They can cost over $200. This is one reason why the ps3 is a great deal!! You can play DVD's, blu-ray disk's, video games, search the web and even download games right in your own home.
